On Friday, July 8th, NAM hosted the WorkTexas Hiring event at the Harrell Opportunity Center. These hiring events are part of the ongoing partnership between NAM’s Learning and Vocational Training Center (LVTC) and WorkTexas. Over 200 individuals registered for the event. 

WorkTexas is collaborating with NAM to bring hands-on vocational training to our client. Past classes that NAM LVCT clients could take with WorkTexas included welding, residential construction and electrician skills for residential and commercial buildings.

By offering these vocational trainings, the NAM LVTC is providing their clients and the community more opportunities in different job fields, so that they can achieve self-sufficiency. 

“I applied online for some jobs, and when I got here today, I saw that employer,” said John, an LVTC student. “So I was able to have a face-to-face meeting with the people who work there and get some good job leads. I’m a cancer survivor living on disability, but you can’t survive on that. So I am hoping to find a job soon.” 

The July 2022 hiring event was the 3rd time it had been hosted at NAM. We are grateful to the dozens of employers - including valuable community parters who give their time and resources to NAM - come to NAM at this event, with the goal of hiring our neighbors in need of job. We look forward to hosting many more for our community, and continuing our partnership with WorkTexas to help empower our neighbors with new skills and job opportunities.
