NAM’S NUTRITION CENTER TO RECEIVE LARGE FOOD DONATION FROM THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS

HOUSTON, TX (March 17, 2020)— On Wednesday morning, March 18, 2020, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will drive an 18-wheeler truck into the parking lot at Northwest Assistance Ministries (NAM) to donate over 40 tons of food to its Joanne Watford Nutrition Center.

This is the second time that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has helped NAM during a time of great need. In November of last year, the congregation donated 20,000 pounds of food to help feed families during the holiday season.

Right now, during this time of public health concern when children can not attend school and some parents are unable to go to work, the community is in need of assistance more than ever. NAM is grateful to the church for this bountiful gift that will help fill the shelves of our Nutrition Center. NAM is open to those who are struggling during these uncertain times and the generous donation from The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints will ensure that NAM can help more neighbors in need.

"We would like to thank The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and President Sam Bickman for offering NAM all of this wonderful food," said Les Cave, President & CEO of NAM. "The shelves in our Nutrition Center are starting to go bare because more people have been coming to NAM for help with food," he continued. "We are eternally grateful and look forward to continuing to work with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints."

Special thanks to all the missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who will be donating their time to volunteer to assist with unloading the truck and stocking the shelves in the Nutrition Center Wednesday morning. Their dedication to the community and NAM are greatly appreciated.

NAM's Joanne Watford Nutrition Center still has shelves left to fill. More than 1,000 people visit NAM's Nutrition Center every month needing food. For more information on how you can donate to NAM, visit namonline.org or call 281-885-4555.

Northwest Assistance Ministries is a non-profit, community-based social service agency that strives to meet basic human needs through Neighbors Helping Neighbors. NAM provides assistance in areas such as food, shelter, health, education and domestic violence awareness and intervention.
