Jeans & Jewels Luncheon and Style Show a Huge Success, Despite Hurricane Harvey

Hurricane Harvey may have dropped massive amounts of rain throughout the city, but it didn’t put a damper on the 2017 Jeans & Jewels Luncheon and Style Show which went on to raise over $70,000 benefiting Northwest Assistance Ministries (NAM) on Thursday, September 14, 2017 despite a last-minute change of venue.

The event, originally set to be hosted at Shirley Acres, was relocated due to flood damage and instead took place at The Harrell Family Opportunity Center, where it went off without a hitch. This year’s theme, “Our Jewel of Generosity—Creativity, Compassion & DRIVE,” was led by Susan Cofran and Gina Wolford and honored avid golfer and long-time NAM supporter, Barbara Watson. Katherine Whaley, morning traffic anchor at KTRK-TV, ABC 13 Houston, served as Emcee at luncheon.

With more than 300 guests in attendance, this marked the 19th Jeans & Jewels Luncheon and Style Show, the second affair in a three-part series of annual fundraising events that ensure the continued support of NAM’s programs and services for families in need in the Houston area. This event placed special emphasis on drawing support for NAM’s Relief for Neighbors fund.

After a moving invocation by Carole Little, NAM’s President and CEO, guests enjoyed a gourmet lunch and were treated to a style show displaying western ensembles provided courtesy of Cavender’s and Chicos. Fashion models included public officials and community leaders Judge Lincoln Goodwin, Commissioner Jack Cagle, Judge H.N. McElroy and State Representative Kevin Roberts. Outside of the dining area an array of silent auction items beckoned, and vendors Kendra Scott, Elaine Turner and The Bath Hut set up display tables with merchandise for guests to enjoy a bit of shopping, with vendors donating 20% of sales to NAM’s Relief for Neighbors fund.

The grand finale in the 2017 Jeans & Jewels series is the Texas Sized Party, honoring Jeannie and Nolan Lehmann along with Citation Oil & Gas, with Margie and Rick Crump leading the way as Honorary Chairs. The gala will take place on Saturday, October 21 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott.
