Your Neighborhood NAM Resale

For nearly 40 years Northwest Assistance Ministries has served the northwest Houston community. Your neighborhood NAM Resale has been an integral part of that service. NAM Resale has been the place to donate slightly used clothing, furniture, housewares and decorations because we serve those in need in our community.

While NAM resale has changed a lot over the years, one thing has remained constant: your donations help NAM provide assistance to families in need.

NAM Resale has changed locations, changed in appearance and even changed its business structure over the years. NAM still depends on the donations from our community to provide resources for our programs.

Some have commented on the current structure of NAM Resale that illustrates some confusion about the current operations. Your neighborhood NAM Resale is still open and offering great values on gently used clothing, furniture and housewares. The Resale store is open Monday – Friday and is located in the main NAM building located at 15555 Kuykendahl Rd. Jennifer is ready to share our daily discounts with customers who may be looking for a special outfit or a new purse for work. She updates her inventory regularly, so you are sure to find something that will catch your eye. Clearance racks hold adult clothing for $2 and children’s clothes for $1 - so there are great deals available for all budgets. NAM Resale purposely offers low cost inventory as another way to serve those families that are struggling financially. In addition, NAM Resale inventory is available to our program clients that are in need of clothes or furniture at no cost to them.

The NAM Resale Donation Center is located in our second building adjacent to our main building. In addition to the donation center, Jason and his team operate a clearance center for furniture, housewares and several racks of clothes for the entire family. The decision was made to open the clearance center Tuesday – Friday to offer the community the same low cost inventory Resale has offered through the years. New inventory is received daily, and is available for sale once processed and sorted.

Donations are still being accepted and sold in a variety of ways to generate revenue to fund NAM programs and services. Many of our neighbors bring donations to NAM so our Donation Center is open Tuesday – Friday. Tim and his team of volunteers will assist you with unloading your donations and placing them in receiving containers to facilitate sorting. Your information will be inputted into our database so that an electronic receipt will be emailed to you. Electronic receipts are more efficient and reduce costs.

Our delivery / pick up superstar Jay mans the famous NAM Resale truck seen driving through your neighborhood. Jay is a favorite among our regular donors for his customer service and his smile. Jay will pick up large items or large quantities from donor’s homes or businesses as long as they are in good enough condition to generate revenue for NAM. Our policy is to only accept donations that are in sellable condition. In order to keep our expenses low and to maximize your donations, NAM cannot accept junk or broken or damaged items. There are companies that can pick up these items for a small fee.

Once donations are received in the Donation Center they are sorted for proper sales. High end clothing in good condition are sent to the NAM Resale store to be sold for quick sale and revenue generation. Many donors have expectations about how much NAM should charge for their donations. At times donors may feel disappointed that we price these items below their expectations. Our mission is to turn all donations into revenue as soon as possible. Merchandise not sold is revenue not generated. NAM does not enjoy the luxury of holding items for an extended period of time in order to receive a higher sales price that may or may not come.

Other items are priced for clearance sales and items that do not meet quality standards due to stains, tears, missing buttons or excessive wear or tear are bundled and sold to a recycling center. “NAM has established relationships with companies so that we can monetize nearly every donation, thus fulfilling the desire of our donors and to maximize revenue generation.” Stated Jason Woods, NAM Resale Director.

Volunteers are still a vital piece of NAM Resale operations. Volunteers help NAM keep expenses low and maintain a quality operational standard. From time to time we may not have sufficient volunteers to accommodate elevated workloads. The recent pandemic has curtailed many NAM volunteers from serving the way we are accustomed. We ask that the community be patient as we all get used to the “new normal”.

NAM Resale is operating in a deliberate and cost efficient manner in order to serve our clients and our community. One thing will remain; NAM Resale is your “neighborhood resale store”
