The Learning & Vocational Training Center

NAM is changing the name of its adult learning center to the NAM Learning and Vocational Training Center. The new name better reflects the full array of training opportunities that are available to the community.

"In the Learning Center, we pride ourselves on the work that we do, the services we provide, and the lives we impact," said Elaina Albarez, Director of the Learning and Vocational Training Center.  "I am excited to enhance the name of the department as I feel it speaks to the evolution of the Learning Center and the work that has been put in to bring us to where we are today."

"Given the impact COVID19 has had on our economy and the Workforce, now is a good time to run towards change and give credit to the work we are already doing here at the Learning Center," Albarez explained. "As we focus on expansion, I am excited to change our department name to the Learning & Vocational Training Center as I feel it better represents where we currently are and supports where we are heading in the future.  The name change is reflective of the program as a whole and will assist us in being able to spread the word that we offer more than a simple service here at the Learning and Vocational Training Center."

The name change goes into effect immediately as the Center opens registration for the Fall courses on June 14.

Classes that will be offered for Fall 2021 are:

  • Administrative Professional
  • Certified Nurse Aid (CNA)
  • Certified Sterile Processing Technician (CSPT)
  • Community Health Worker (CHW)
  • Forklift Operator Certification with OSHA 10
  • A+ Certification
  • Quickbooks

Due to health concerns, some of the classes will vary from in-person learning to online learning or a combination of both. Final details are being worked out to ensure every student, instructor, and staff member's safety.

ESL classes will also start back up. Harris County Department of Education will be resuming in-person classes in July at NAM. The number of students will be scaled back to allow room to maintain social distancing and other logistics are currently being discussed.  Please be sure to check back here at namonline.org for further updates on how to register for the ESL class.
