The Aetna Foundation Helps Meals on Wheels Texas Support Local Home Delivered Meals Programs Impacted by Hurricane Harvey

Meals on Wheels Texas is grateful for a contribution of $25,000 provided from the Aetna Foundation to support the Meals on Wheels Texas Disaster Relief Fund. This funding will allow Meals on Wheels Texas to support programs who are facing the long-term impacts of Hurricane Harvey.

“Meals on Wheels Texas is incredibly grateful to the Aetna Foundation for this generous donation. We have heard from providers across Southeast Texas about the long-term challenges they are facing. We know of local home delivered meals providers whose kitchen facilities were decimated or who lost their entire fleet of delivery vehicles.  Meals on Wheels providers have been building on their community connections and providing meals using community support, including church kitchens and volunteer drivers. The donation from the Aetna Foundation allows Meals on Wheels Texas to provide local grants to organizations to help them fully restore their facilities and services.  We are so appreciative for their support.” said Greg Pittman, President Meals on Wheels Texas.

The Aetna Foundation also sees the benefit of this partnership.

We are always proud to work with Meals on Wheels Texas and support their tremendous efforts in local communities,” said Mike Nelson, Texas Market President for Aetna. “This is particularly true as Meals on Wheels Texas helps people throughout the state continue to recover from the impact of Hurricane Harvey.”

Aetna has a long-standing history of working with Meals on Wheels programs, including the most recent announcement from Meals on Wheels America about a new national program with Aetna to collaborate on groundbreaking research and innovative models for patient care coordination. The nonprofit and Fortune 50 health company will work together to facilitate access to critical health and social services for America’s seniors at all stages of medical need, from preventive to post-hospital discharge.

Donations made to Meals on Wheels Texas and designated for disaster relief at www.mealsonwheelstexas.org will be distributed to local Meals on Wheels providers.
