NAM's Sheryl Johnson To Be Honored With Outstanding Woman Award

The AAUW, or the  North Harris County American Association of University Women, is a nationwide, nonpartisan network of more than 170,000 members and supporters, ”dedicated to breaking through educational and economic barriers so that all women may have a fair chance.” Each year, they honor women located in the area of their regional chapter.

“The Northwest Harris County Chapter has been active in our community for many years,” said Sheryl Johnson, Director of the NAM Family Violence Center. “And I first became connected to them about 19 years ago when I first became the Educator for the Family Violence Center.”

Each year, they have an Outstanding Women Awards Luncheon, to be hosted on February 19th. In 2022, Sheryl will be granted the award of Outstanding Woman in Community Service, for the work she has done at Northwest Assistance Ministries. “It's a wonderful honor, but its not recognizing me, but recognizing this organization and all that NAM has done.” says Sheryl . “I’ve had the fortune of coming into contact with AAUW over the years, in terms of the other ways they’ve recognized NAM in the past: they’ve granted scholarships for the education program several times, and now it's a great honor to be recognized for 20 + years of service.”

The luncheon will be hosted at Shirley Acres on February 19th. The keynote speaker is Kathryn Childers, one of the first women to serve as a secret service agent.
