Nearly 1,400 Texans who were displaced by Harvey just received alarming news that they will have to check out of the FEMA-funded hotels by Tuesday.  The agency has concluded the housing market in five counties has enough apartments available for victims who had to leave their flooded homes during or after the storm.  In Harris County alone, 1, 178 people will once again be displaced, along with over 140 people from four other counties.

For those who were told they must leave their hotels, and have no place to go or nowhere to turn, Northwest Assistance Ministries (NAM) is here to help.  NAM will aid individuals and families who find themselves in need of a place to stay; or who may need further assistance with food, rent, clothing, or furniture.

“It’s almost like Harvey all over again,” said Brian Carr, NAM’s Chief Advancement Officer.  “People are being displaced once again,” he continued.  “And for 35 years NAM has been here to help the community and will continue to do so, especially at this critical time where Harvey victims might find themselves with nowhere else to go.”

NAM has raised over $5 million in relief funds and assisted more than 10,000 individuals impacted by Hurricane Harvey with food, clothing, hygiene products, rent and mortgage, utility bills, home repairs, furniture, vehicle repairs and replacement and business equipment.

NAM is also the recipient of grant funding from a variety of businesses, foundations, the United Way and the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund (HHRF). The grants from the HHRF, established by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and Harris County Judge Ed Emmett and managed by the Greater Houston Community Foundation (GHCF), supply recipients with funds to be used to provide programs and/or services to those affected by Hurricane Harvey.
