NAM Meals on Wheels Continues to Serve Seniors

NAM's Meals on Wheels (MOW) program delivers hot, well-balanced meals – free of charge – to the homes of seniors and other neighbors who are home bound because of disability or illness. NAM is one of the largest MOW providers countywide, serving 24 Zip Codes encompassing 600 square miles.

Normally, a NAM volunteer brings a meal to the client's door every weekday. Volunteers have always been a vital part of NAM’s Meals on Wheels. Not only do they deliver a meal, but they provide a few moments of conversation as well as a check on the senior's well-being. NAM would not be able to carry out our mission without dedicated volunteers, and we are truly grateful for all they do.

Due to health and safety concerns for our clients and volunteers, NAM has had to adjust our delivery process. Now, instead of seniors receiving one hot meal each day Monday through Friday, volunteers and NAM staff deliver a two-week supply of shelf-stable or frozen meals one day during the week. This will ensure that clients will still have a meal every day to sustain them for two weeks until the next delivery. NAM staff still contact each MOW client on a daily basis to check on their health and well-being.

Last month NAM converted our Young at Heart Senior Center in-house lunch program to home delivery in an effort to reduce the large congregation of our most vulnerable client base in one area. This means that NAM is delivering meals to nearly 900 of our senior neighbors.

NAM is dedicated to making sure seniors and disabled adults continue to receive food to maintain their health and strength, especially during a time when they are most vulnerable.
