FVC to Provide Free Security Systems to Clients

NAM's Family Violence Center is excited to announce that they will be working with the Harris County Domestic Violence Coordination Council (HCDVCC) to provide free Ring Home Security System services to clients.

This collaboration began when the HCDVCC started working with a client that they were providing that form of assistance for her.  From there discussions among their staff prompted a call to the company, Ring.  During the discussions, Ring was excited about the potential use of their products and services being used to help survivors of domestic violence.  From there a pilot project was created.

Ring will be offering 500 Ring systems (including a lifetime service agreement) to survivors in the greater Houston region, through HCDVCC.  Once a client has been assessed by an individual agency to be in safe, independent housing they are eligible for the service.  NAM's Family Violence Center staff will pick up the hardware from HCDVCC, provide information for installation, and give the system to the client.  The survivor then sets up the free account and they are ready to utilize the service.

The system will allow them to:

  • monitor the area on their camera, live and in real-time
  • talk to those at their door remotely
  • access recordings from their camera, via the internet

The survivor will also be able to take the security system with them if they decide to move.

The HCDVCC client that was previously set up has already reported collecting information via the camera that proves their batterer broke the terms of their protective order and she can present that evidence in court, which really speaks to the value of this amazing opportunity for our clients.

If you or anyone you know are suffering from domestic abuse please call our 24-hour Family Violence Hotline at (281) 885-HOPE (4673).
