This month marks the one-year anniversary of the 60+ Café at Northwest Assistance Ministries, and seniors who haven’t yet checked it out are warmly encouraged to do so.
The 60+ Café opened in March 2013 and offers a free, hot lunch to Harris County residents who are 60 years of age or older, regardless of income. Along with providing a nutritious meal, the 60+ Café serves as a gathering place and a great way for seniors to meet new friends or catch up with those they’ve known for years.
The café is open from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. There is no charge, but reservations are required two business days in advance by calling (281) 885-4619. The café is located in NAM’s main building at 15555 Kuykendahl Road in Houston (just south of 1960), and transportation is available for those who need it.
“This is a great opportunity for seniors to get out of the house and have some fun,” said Carole Little, President & CEO of NAM. “Who doesn’t like a free lunch? And while you’re here, you can check out the fabulous variety of classes, trips, and other activities offered to seniors through our Fifty Plus program.”
The 60+ Café also offers occasional guest speakers, live music, holiday celebrations, and monthly birthday parties. Past speakers have covered topics including crime prevention, gardening, and home organization, as well as a variety of health-related topics.
For more information or to make a reservation at the 60+ Café, please call (281) 885-4619. Information about other 50+ programs is available by calling (281) 885-4601 or at www.namonline.org.
