2019 JEANS & JEWELS LUNCHEON RAISES NEARLY $70,000
HOUSTON, TX — On Thursday, September 12, 2019, Northwest Assistance Ministries (NAM) honored Donna Asbill, longtime volunteer, donor, and “Queen of NAM” at the 2019 Jeans & Jewels Luncheon. Over 300 people joined NAM at Shirley Acres and raised nearly $70,000 for NAM’s Meals on Wheels and other programs and services. View photos of the event here.
“We have been fortunate at NAM to call Donna a supporter, a partner, and a friend,” said Les Cave, President & CEO of NAM. “We are grateful for her enduring dedication and support which serves as an inspiration to others within our community.”
Asbill, and her husband, Tom, were introduced to NAM when their friends, Joe and Linda Fowler, invited them to one of the first Jeans & Jewels galas. Soon afterward, Asbill saw an article about NAM’s need for volunteers and signed up to deliver Meals on Wheels.
Over the years, Asbill delivered hundreds of meals to homebound seniors, drove dozens of people to medical appointments through Senior Wheels at NAM, and helped plan and support the very event that introduced her to NAM – Jeans & Jewels. Her generosity extends to the future with a planned gift to the NAM Endowment Fund.
“I have been involved with NAM for more than 20 years,” said Asbill. “NAM does so much for our community and I feel blessed and honored to be a part of it,” she continued.
Cathy Hernandez from KPRC Channel 2, served as emcee for the afternoon; and co-chairs, Linda Fowler and Annette Young, shared a few heartwarming words about Donna Asbill. The event included an inspiring video which captured the spirit of the honoree and NAM’s Meals on Wheels.
Guests enjoyed a delicious meal along with a drinking fountain that offered bottomless Mimosas. Additionally, supporters participated in the raffle to win prizes like jewelry, Astros tickets, gift baskets, and more. There were also pop-up shops from Anything Bling, The Bath Hut Boutique, Cindy Jaeger Designs, Kendra Scott, and The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts – all who donated 20% of their sales from the event.
Special thanks to NAM’s major supporters and sponsors Donna Asbill, Fidelity Investments, Southwestern Energy, PurePoint Financial, Commissioner Jack Cagle, Linda Fowler, Houston Methodist, Tony Lindsay, Linda Sparks, and Annette Young. And thank you to everyone who donated and came out to celebrate Donna Asbill and her service to her community and neighbors.
