There are several ways that you can leave a legacy to NAM, during or after your lifetime. Planned gifts help to secure the future of NAM’s services, and may offer attractive tax benefits to you and your family. The simplest planned gifts are:
- Bequests
- Life Insurance
- IRAs

How Planned Giving Makes a Difference
Through planned gifts, donors can make gifts that have a far greater impact than cash gifts they may make during their lifetimes. Planned gifts can be combined with cash gifts, if donors wish to start a fund during their lifetime that can be supplemented by a planned gift later on.
The most common planned gift is a bequest. Standard bequest language is included below, but to ensure that NAM carries out the donor’s wishes, it is best to speak with a NAM representative. Sample Bequest Language
Option 1: A gift to NAM’s Endowment Fund. This is a fund that provides perpetual income for NAM; only the earnings are distributed to NAM and the principle is invested,
“I give the sum of $________ in cash (or I give ____% of the residue of my estate) to the Northwest Assistance Ministries Endowment Fund of Houston, Texas, to be used to establish the _____ (name of family) Endowment Fund.”
Option 2: A gift to NAM’s general fund. This will be used immediately for current needs.
“I give the sum of $________ in cash (or I give ____% of the residue of my estate) to Northwest Assistance Ministries of Houston, Texas, to be used for its charitable purposes.”
Option 3: A gift to a specific NAM program. This will be used for the program designated by the donor (Meals on Wheels, Children’s Clinic, etc.)
“I give the sum of $________ in cash (or I give ____% of the residue of my estate) to the _______ program of Northwest Assistance Ministries of Houston, Texas, to be used for its charitable purposes.”
