The Shelter and Energy Assistance program (SEA) helps families in need with shelter and energy-related issues. SEA receives funding from several grant programs so staff members will ask you questions to determine if you qualify for one of the available programs. Comprehensive Energy Assistance (CEAP) funding through Sheltering Arms Senior Services will be available at NAM after Feb. 15, 2007. This component is for elderly, defined as 60 years of age or older, and/or disabled adults receiving Social Security or Social Security Indemnity. To be eligible, you also must be a Harris County resident and have a household income at or below 125% of the federal poverty level. For a family of one, the limit is $12,500 in annual income. The LITE-UP TEXAS program is designed to help qualified low-income individuals reduce the monthly cost of electric service. An electric customer is qualified if the customer is currently receiving: Medicaid, Food stamps, Medicaid - Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Medicaid - Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), or Medicaid - QMB. If you are not in one of the qualified programs listed above, you can still qualify in the program if your household income is at or below 125 percent of the federal poverty guidelines.
